Hugh Hendry Hedge Fund Manager from Eclectica (generally bearish and contrarian but didn't seem so much so today) says oil company share prices have little bearing with actual oil price which has risen considerably in recent years - so that oil companies are remarkably cheap now - he is long BP and also Royal Dutch Shell - but says Canadian Oil Sands are best in the world at the moment if you want to play oil, 5% div. yield and longevity of around 80 years
Is Kingfisher (KGF) a buy ? - says it has fallen a lot but needs confirmation from the market which you aren't getting with Kingfisher - recommends German market because of last 15 - 16 years hiatus of activity, we are now just at beginning of DIY market - recommended Practica and Hornbach in the DIY sector
Uranium stocks ? Gone from 3 to 70 dollars with no correction over last 5 years until last week - first correction - hopes it might halve so he can buy in, but not investing in uranium at the moment. Bullish about agricultural commodities - has launched a unit trust in agricultural commodities - not futures - equities, because of dividends anything to do with farming particularly recommends German co-op BAYWA - also ethanol factor plus rising prosperity in emerging markets increases demand for protein - scarcity of cotton and wheat
Very bullish on Japan - long Nikkei short S&P
Large cap over small cap - Europe (partic Germany) over US
Dubai and Qatar = top tips
Time to buy stocks online ?
Roger Nightingale Millennium Global Investments - likes oil sector but not particularly BP - says nearly all are better than BP although sector is very good at the moment for the medium-term
Kingfisher (KGF) - not keen, says housing and consumption will fall
Agrees with HH re. commodities - even ordinary commodity producers doing well - less competition than in manufacturing - shortage of commodities - all smart money going into commodity producing -
Prefers small cap over large cap
