BROWN TO DO A U-TURN on SUPERCASINOS ?
The new UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown hinted in the House of Commons today that he was contemplating a U-turn on supercasinos and the idea of using gambling to regenerate deprived areas, which it has to be said was always a strange idea, particularly for a Labour government. The city's buiness leaders were apaprently 'shocked and surprised' by his comments.
Chris Fletcher, from the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said: 'I think following the announcement today we are amazed and a bit shocked about what Mr Brown has said. The idea behind the Supercasino in east Manchester was that it would lever further private investment money into the area as a catalyst for the regeneration already going on. Manchester won fair and square.
It also brings into question how much time and money has it all cost? There has been an awful lot of time and money wasted. We are waiting with baited breath what these other proposals might be. '
This may of benfit to online gambling concerns of course as people will have to continie to do their gambling in the confort of their own homes. Except in the US of course where the online gambling business has been stitched up and it is not legal and even immoral, so people have to make the trek to a casino run by the US casino companies rather than give their money to online UK gambling companies. Nothing to do with protectionism of course ! OR the fact that the US was late to the game in so far as concerns online gambling (which is not the case with online porn of course which is big business in the US).
