Online Stock Trades - Problem with Amazon Kindle
I have previously mentioned the Amazon Kindle Ebook Reader and how well it was likely to do and in fact it turns out that the Kindle 2, which was launched in February to replace the Kindle 1, is said to be selling at approximately twice the rate of the Kindle 1, which itself sold out very quickly.Approximately 300,000 Kindle 2 ebook readers have been sold to date, which translated to over $100 million in revenue this year, from the device which retails at $359.
There were around 400,000 Kindle 1s sold over the lifetime of the device. Amazon expects to sell approximately 800,000 Kindle 2s in 2009.
There are however estimates for sales as high as 1 million Kindle 2s this year, and these figures are supported by current numbers, if the economy picks up then sales will rise even faster. Amazon would have no trouble increasing production if necessary.
There is however one major problem with the Kindle, see - consumerist - you are totally dependent upon Amazon for its use. If you decide that you have infringed one of its conditions or if you return too much stuff, even if the stuff you return has nothing to do with the Kindle, then Amazon can switch your Kindle off and you are stuck with a useless piece of grey plastic that you paid $360 for !
