Low Rate Remortgage Deals

House Remortgage Deals - Low Remortgage Rates

[[UPDATE : February Mortgage Deals -

If you're a first time buyer in the market for a mortgage but only have a small deposit then you may be interested in the "revolutionary new mortgage" just created by the Halifax.

According to one well-known financial site the mortgage is a 2-year fixed rate loan at 5.79%, for borrowers with a 10% deposit, but the most interesting aspect of this home loan is that there are no fees. However, having had a look at the Halifax site I couldn't find it, the only one I saw that came close was a 3 year fixed rate loan at 6.09% with no fees and a 10% deposit. You can see the rates for yourself at halifax.co.uk or check out the links on this page.

No conveyancing fees, no mortgage application fees, and the Halifax will also refund the valuation fee. As anyone who has bought a house knows, fees are a nice little earner for banks and solicitors. Sometimes the fees are added to the mortgage which may seem like a good idea but it just increases your costs over time. If you're a first time buyer then you can sometimes pay in the region of 1% of the house price in fees.

But how does 5.79% no fees compare with the loans other banks are offering ? HSBC 4.99% - Co-operative Bank 5.09% - Newcastle 5.15% - Yorkshire 5.19% - Britannia 5.69% with fees ranging from 0 (Britannia) to 995 (Yorkshire) ]]

Looking to refinance your home with a cheap remortgage ? ING Direct have just launched a home remortgage that lets you fix the interest rate you pay at 3.69% for the next 5 years. According to some mortgage brokers this is the best remortgage rate they've ever seen. it is however still a lot higher than rates of the cheapest standard variable rate and tracker loans.

The possibility of refinancing or remortgaging is something most borrowers face sooner or later and given that interest rates are so low it may seem very tempting to switch home loans. There is also the possibility that mortgage rates will start moving up again next year, so maybe this is a good time to be locking in a low fixed rate.

Nationwide Building Society and Cheltenham & Gloucester have standard variable rates of 2.5pc at present, well below ING's remortgage rate. But if and when rates start to rise again this could change as the remortgage rate is after all fixed for 5 years.

If you would find repaying your home loan a problem at a higher mortgage rate then you would be well-advised to go for a fixed rate.

Obviously the calculation of whether a fixed rate remortgage or a standard variable rate is the better option depends on when interest rates start going up, if you have a low mortgage rate at the moment you will want to stay with it as long as possible.

Ray Boulger of mortgage brokers John Charcol says you can get an idea of when interest rates will be raised by reading the last few paragraphs of the minutes of the meetings of the BoE's monetary policy committee, as these usually contain indications about future rates. He also advised clients when fixing rates would be a good idea, and he hasn't done that yet.

Want some 'free' advice on mortgages and remortgaging then you could check out the free mortgage guides at moneysavingexpert.com/mortgages/best-mortgages-cashback#step1 you could also consider subscribing to Which? magazine. Their newly launched Which? Mortgage Advisers is a telephone-based service offered to all 750,000 Which? members, plus friends and family. The subscription to Which? will cost you £9.75 a month for membership. So I guess you could always cancel once you've got the advice you want, although there may be a fixed subscription period.

Electrocomponents - Buy at 260p - key to future profit growth is international profile and internet sales. International business makes up 70% of sales and grew 30% in H1. Growth in Internet sales was 42% and sales more than doubled in the US

Western Coal – Buy at 452p - The company’s main assets are in north-east British Columbia and West Virginia in the US. Reserves should last for 20 years - The shares look undervalued despite recent strong gains.

Investment Share Tips

BHP Billiton - Buy at 2318p

JD Sports Fashion - Buy at 785p - Despite strong performance in recent years, the shares are trading on just 7.1 x forecast earnings for 2011, a big discount to the sector. The shares are not so liquid, as Pentland owns 57%. There are also concerns about consumer spending. We think that JD is one of the sector winners, so buy

Taylor Wimpey – Buy at 24.8p - shares are trading at around 50% discount to NAV and are fairly priced compared to sector. Do not expect stellar performance in 2011, as lack of mortgages will hold back the market, but for the long term, Taylor Wimpey is a buy.

Stock Market Today Charts Still Bearish

Online Stock Trading - Stock Market Charts Indicate Correction Coming

For Sunday newspaper stocks and shares tips see - Sunday share tips

Monday stock market news - Stocks fell back at the end of the day, giving up the gains of earlier in the day, so the indices, apart from the DOW finished with slight losses. The DOW finished up 9 at 11,202 the NASDAQ was down 4 at 2513 the S&P finished down 1 at 1197. According to the genetleman from PerfectStockAlerts the recent pullback is setting the markets up for a short-term bounce, but this bounce should not be seen as a reason to get long, on the contrary it should be used to short the markets. Certainly with the problems re-surfacing in the Eurozone, with Ireland being bailed out to the tune of around $100 billion it seems odd that the markets would be rallying.

Stock Market Today and Tomorrow

Stock Market Today and Tomorrow - Have Stocks Peaked?

For Sunday newspaper share tips please scroll down to the bottom of this page.

On the stock market today the DOW had its worst loss for three weeks and this week the markets have had their worst weekly performance since August. The DOW fell 90 points to 11,192 the S&P fell 14 to 1199. Yesterday we put up a video in which the Perfect Stock Alert analyst said the markets are peaking and due for a pull back to under 10,000 on the DOW - see - stock market charts - he may yet be proved right. Actually some analysts are still waiting for the stock markets to re-visit the lows we saw back in March 2009, so a pullback to under 10,000 seems quite mild by comparison.

The stock market tomorrow ? Well it's closed, so that was easy.

Today, stocks started in the red on speculation that China might raise interest rates to fend off inflation. The fear is that this would slow growth and led to a 5.2% drop on the Chinese stock market in the Shanghai Composite index. There were also concerns about eurozone sovereign debt in the form of Ireland which is in a pickle and will need to be bailed out.

Stocks tried to rally briefly but when that didn't work the selling increased pace, and the markets fell through support levels. The S&P 500 finally ended the day below 1200 with a 2.2% loss for the week. 90% of S&P 500 stocks ended up down, although NVIDIA, Intel and Disney were among the gainers. Disney shares are now strangely enough, given the fact that there are nearly 10% unemployed in the USA, at their best level in ten years.

Back on Monday 8, Mark Waterhouse, portfolio manager at Garrett Nagle, said there were bargains to be had

“The whole energy sector has lagged the market, and we find that somewhat surprising,” he said. “And by the year 2035, energy consumption in the U.S. is going to be up 40 percent from where it is now.” The year 2035 !! Holy carbon monoxide emissions Batman ! By the year 2035 the Amish might be making a fortune from their horse and cart monopoly ! Or we might all have solar-powered roller blades to get around.

Anyhow here are Mr Waterhouse's picks and the good news is they are even more of a bargain than they were on Monday !

Yuhe International [YUII 10.41 -0.26 (-2.44%) ]
ExxonMobil [XOM 70.99 -0.84 (-1.17%) ]
Citigroup [C 4.29 -0.07 (-1.61%) ]
ConocoPhillips [COP 62.42 -0.47 (-0.75%) ]
Timberland [TBL 23.10 -0.40 (-1.7%) ]
Wonder Auto Technology [WATG 9.40 -0.28 (-2.89%) ]

I wonder if Mr Waterhouse is anything to do with online stock brokers (ha ha) TDWaterhouse, if so then I'm afraid I will be eschewing his recommendations as the last time I dealt with the Waterhouse family it cost me $1500, through no fault of my own, which would lead you to wonder perhaps whose fault it was and whether it had anything to do with a software fault. Suffice to say I no longer have an account with TDWaterhouse given their refusal to admit anything and their refusal to give me back my $1500 - very short-sighted as it has cost them a lot more than that in lost trade. If you are looking for proper online stock brokers e.g Etrade or Tradeking etc... then check out this list of cheap and cheerful brokers here - how to buy stocks online  - you will notice that TDWaterhouse is not among them as I do not feel I can in all honesty recommend them, just my humble opinion based on my experience with their trading software.

Make of that what you will. The year 2035 ?! I Think when all is said and done I prefer Mr PerfectStockAlerts approach - if you are curious about how to trade stocks and make money on the stock market by doing nothing more complicated than looking at a few squiggly lines then check out stock charts for beginners.

Stock Market Charts Peaking

Stock Market Trading - Understanding Stock Charts

For yesterday's stock picks from Shares Magazine see - share tips
Christian at perfectstockalerts.com says the charts are peaking. He also says the DOW will fall back down below 10,000. The charts are distinctly overbought and the RSI chart signal is very important, also there have been too many 'gaps' in share price - 19 unfilled gaps indicating a low volume rally.

Interesting stuff, I've got no idea if his interpretation of the charts is correct or not, but I guess we will find out. Certainly the markets have been going up quite a lot lately despite the awful economic news.

· Discussions advancing with contractors to operate coal handling and preparation plant ('CHPP') and mine on a BOOT (build, operate, own and transfer) basis

Beacon Hill Executive Chairman Justin Lewis said, "We continue to make excellent progress at the Minas Moatize mine. The initial results from our exploration programme are particularly encouraging, demonstrating the potential for BHR Mining to significantly increase the current 33 million tonnes resource and increase yields, in particular of coking coal and export thermal coal.

"In conjunction with the exploration programme, the Group remain focussed on establishing a large open pit mine capable of producing 4Mtpa. In line with this, we have significantly increased current production, and this trend is set to continue with the extension of the current trial open pit, generating significant revenues for the Group ahead of the commencement of the main open cut mine. We are also making solid progress with negotiations regarding logistics, utilising our unique position as the only current coal producer in the region in order to secure transport corridors for our export quality coal product."

Charts Indicate Stock Market Peak

Stock Market for Beginners - Charts Show Correction Due

First off - if you are looking for today's newspaper share tips click here - newspaper share tips

The smart traders from Perfect Stock Alert are not convinced that this rally is for real. Many other traders are also not convinced. Check out their video on why the stock market is peaking - they don't actually say when the downward move will come or how far or fast the stock markets will fall - but their technical analysis is nevertheless interesting and easy to understand ! And they've got a site with a load of free information too.

Basically we appear to be waiting for things to get worse in Europe and for certain countries to default - so we shall see. Stock markets are fun ! Somebody probably knows what's going to happen but they like to hide it from the rest of us poor stock traders.

BP – Buy at 431.5p - shares trading on December 2010 earnings multiple of 6.5 x , falling to 6.2 x next year. First tipped at 487½p in April last year - down 11% - market up 43%. Dividend likely to be rebased, prospective yield still 6.2% in 2011

1 year BP chart with 50 and 200 day moving averages

[You will note that the BP share price is still below the 200 day moving average which is generally not considered postiive by the chartists, but it may cross above it soon which would be considered positive - bear in mind that we still don't know if BP is going to be charged with gross negligence (which would be bad)

BG Group - Buy at 1252p - trading on December 2010 earnings multiple of 16.8 x falling to 15.3 x next year. Dividend yield is only 1%, but this is not an income play. First recommended at £10 on January 5 2009 - up 25p%.

MIDAS Share Tips

Providence Resources - Oil from Sussex - at 178½p the shares should rise fast in the next 6 to 18 months. Several Irish projects are soon to enter a new phase, plenty of positive news on the way next year and the year after. Some analysts say the shares are worth over 700p. Not for the cautious, but adventurous investors might do well

New Britain Palm Oil - Investors who bought in 2008 have had an interesting time, since August 2010 it has risen sharply. Investors are advised to take profits and sell around half their stock. But keep half as the long-term potential is good. New investors should consider buying on short-term weakness.
