Buy Bloomsbury at 131p
Bloomsbury has bought the back catalogue of the National Archives publishing programme, which has an extensive catalogue of historical documents and photographs, relating to events such as the Titantic disaster and the Magna Carta. Bloomsbury will be publishing new print books, ebooks and iPad apps using the archives.
At its update in February, the company said e-book sales grew 18 x in 2010 from $131,000 to $2.3m. Margins in e-books are significantly better than in print books and Bloomsbury has already digitised most of its back catalogue, as it anticipates an increased penetration of electronic readers such as Amazon's Kindle and Apple's iPad.
They have made some strategic acquisitions recently including Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, Arden Shakespeare and the digital Berg Fashion Library. It has also created Bloomsbury Academic platforms, which ought to generate good revenues from trade publishing.
There are also reports that JK Rowling's agent had said she is considering making Harry Potter books available electronicallly.
