FTSE rebounding - up 78 at the moment at 5752

A couple of tips from Shares Magazine

Industrial fastenings specialist Trifast - target of management team is to restore the operating return on sales to pre-recession levels of 8.2%. If this is done then brokers say profits could almost treble to £10.5m within the next 3 years. The turnaround is gathering pace and will probably be reflected in estimates. Buy.

Avon Rubber is well positioned in gas masks and dairy equipment, which have clear growth potential. At 307p the shares are up 192% over the last 12 months but are on an undemanding 10.7 x consensus forecast September 2012 eps of 28.8p and current estimates may be conservative. In 2008 Avon won a 10 year contract with the US DoD to supply its M50 gas mask and the filters that go with it. Production capacity was doubled in 2010 on increased demand. Buy.

Robbie Burns

Stock Market Trading

Robbie Burns has a website - which we have mentioned before here Robbie Burns - where he lists his trades and how much he makes or loses on them. He is very impressive and also blessed with the luck of the Irish (e.g. sitting in front of his computer when a notice of a takeover comes through and he has just seconds to react - for some reason the market was comatose - so he made 3K in a few seconds on pure luck - with me it is the other way round - waiting 1 minute before selling shares and seeing a profit warning come out just as I am trying to sell)

Robbie Burns has made a tax-free (from spreadbetting) profit of over £900,000 since 1999, and made a profit even during the bear markets of 2000-2002 and 2008-2009. Public trades shown on his website have made nearly £800,000. So what's he been up to lately ?

On Tuesday he bought Oxford Instruments (OXIG) at 847.5. On its way to a tenner at least (his words not mine).
Bought more "wonderful Microgen" (MCGN), at 146. Since which time someone bought around 1.5m shares. Could be good news on the way? Bought his first lot at 45p - it also pays out nice dividends.

Shorted Ocado (OCDO) at 210p. Valuation remains a mystery to him - only a matter of time before it tanks. Stop loss set at 250p Results next week - expected to declare first profit. But he's still shorting it.

Charter (CHTR) bought at 515p after a profits warning. The 30% drop seems way overdone - one of Charter's divisions is doing well. Short-term punt thinks it will go back to 600ish.

Picked up some Supergroup (SGP) at 831p. 800p seems fair value but it could go back to a tenner or so. Very volatile can move a squid in a day. [Also gets a mention in this week's Investor's Chronicle]

Sold Avation
Got out of his Glencore shorts.

He also writes for ADVFN and writes his own books explaining his stock picking method - such as this one
